ENTREPRENEUR OF THE MONTH APRIL 2012
NGOZI OKONKWO
Ngozi Okonkwo is the proprietress of Kingstep Schools, a ten-year-old family business. She assumed the position, after her training at FATE about six years ago, when she took over the business from the last proprietress—her mother. Since she took charge, she has transformed the business into a strong and profitable enterprise.
Ngozi Okonkwo is a graduate of Theatre Arts from Imo State University and earned a post graduate diploma from the University of Calabar, afterwards. She attended the FATE Aspiring Entrepreneurs Programme (Class 19) in a bid to take her business to greater heights. During the programme, she was taught topics like Human Resources, Finance, Business Planning, Operations, Marketing, Negotiation Skills, Business Strategy, and Identifying Opportunities in local and international markets etc.
Kingstep Schools consist of nursery, primary and secondary schools with a total of 150 students in both the nursery and primary, and 60 students in the secondary school. Plans have been concluded to expand and establish a school at Iba, along Badagry Express Way. The school offers other educational services such as a weekend programme adult education course during the summer holiday.
Ngozi Okonkwo is a versatile entrepreneur; she is also a trained makeup artist and runs an outfit called Image Bender with focus on bridal makeup.
Kingstep Schools currently has a total of 38 employees. The institution has won a few awards namely: Lagos State Internal Revenue Essay Competition, and the Amuwo Odofin Annual Secondary Secondary Essay Competition.
