Our History

FATE Foundation is a non-profit, private sector-led organisation created in March 2000 to tackle the high rate of unemployment and poverty in Nigeria. The mission of FATE is to foster wealth creation by promoting Business and Entrepreneurial development among Nigerian Youth with the aim of fostering the establishment and growth of over 1,000 businesses by 2005 and 5,000 businesses by 2015. These businesses will lead to the creation of employment for at least 50,000 Nigerians by 2015.

In 2005, FATE Foundation surpassed its 1, 000 target by fostering the establishment and growth of 1, 806 businesses. After its initial success, FATE set a new goal to foster the establishment and growth of 5000 businesses by 2015.

FATE Foundation was founded by Mr. Fola Adeola, founder and pioneer Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank, with the support of a group of Nigerians including Mr. Asue Ighodalo, Mr. Bayo Adeola, Mr. Bode Agusto, Mrs. Bumni Lawson, Mr. Chima Onyekwere, Mr. Faysal El-Khalil, Mr. Gbolade Osibodu, Mr. Gabi Williams, Ms. Ifueko Omogui, Mrs. Kathryn Hoomkwap, Mrs. Ndidi Nwuneli, Mrs. Stella Okoli, Chief (Mrs.) Taiwo Taiwo, Mr. Tayo Aderinokun, and Ms. Tutu Sholeye.

In 2005, other well-meaning Nigerians were brought on board of the foundation as members of the board of directors including Mr. Sola Adeeyo, Engr. Bayo Adeola, Mr. Tayo Aderinokun, Mr. Mohammad Ahmad, Mrs. Bola Adesola, Mrs. Habiba Balogun, Mrs. Sola David-Borha, Mr. Aigboje Aig Imoukhuede, Mr. Asue Ighodalo, Mr. Olarenwaju Olusola, Mr. Oye Hassan-Odukale, Mr. Chris Nonyelum Okeke, Mallam Kabiru Abdulahi Yusuf, Chief (Mrs.) Maiden Ibru, Justice Binta Nyako and Mrs. Osayi Alile Oruene.

FATE provides quality entrepreneurial education through a wide range of programmes and services that make an impact in peoples' lives. FATE is committed to encouraging wealth creation rather than wealth acquisition; improved quality of life and the creation of jobs in our society.

Since inception, FATE has worked, and continues to work, with a wide range of institutions and organizations both local and international. It has also received tremendous support from public-spirited individuals. In addition, the visionary board of directors has focused their time, energy and resources towards the continuous growth and development of FATE. These have contributed immensely to its success through their steadfast and tireless support, and they possess a worthy share of the impact and acclaim that FATE has achieved thus far.
